We are thrilled to announce that Athenia’s Last Voyage has been named “Best Documentary Feature” by judges at San Diego Film Week 2024. It is an honor to be recognized in a field of films drawn from San Diego’s talented filmmaking community. Director, producer and executive producer Meghan Courtney accepted the award along with executive producers Tom and Kay Sanger. Athenia was a passenger ship torpedoed by a Nazi submarine only hours after England declared war on Germany at the start of WWII. The film includes interviews with nine survivors from the ship’s sinking 85 years ago. Two of the interviewees have since died, underscoring the urgency of telling these stories while witnesses to this history still live.
